The Difference Between Studio and Outdoor Photography: What’s Right for You?

Identifying your vision for a particular photography session is key to a successful shoot day. The best photography sessions begin with selecting the perfect location. Maybe you want to go for a more realistic or lifestyle shoot. In those cases, an outdoor session would be the best. Maybe you want to have a branded shoot to optimize your site, then indoor sessions at a studio would be the prime choice.

When selecting outdoor sessions, checking the weather a week before your session and again two days before a session is highly recommended. Outdoor sessions based on industry standards are recommended to be taken during the golden hours (right before sunrise and right before sunset). Indoor sessions typically have no constraints when considering the weather. However, creativity and additional props might be needed to offset the lack of a natural background.

Whether you choose an outdoor or indoor session, you and your photographer must identify a vision and theme for the overall session so that you both are clear on the vision in mind.
