3 Rookie Mistakes Beginner Podcasters Make
Starting a new podcast or looking to enhance your current show? Here are a few rookie mistakes digital professionals see far too often in the podcast industry.
The first mistake is bad audio. Often, creators are starting podcasts and investing tons of money in video but, their audio lacks clarity and precision. An industry-standard mic that is reasonable to start with is a Shure mic. These can range from approximately $140-$250.
Next, rookies tend to have no clear brand messaging or podcast structure. Every week, they are changing their podcast episode format and wonder why there is no consistent audience. People like repetition. It is recommended to identify a format and stick to it. Try not to go off on rants at the beginning of an episode. Have a clear message and additional points to back it up.
Lastly, podcast rookies are inconsistent. We live in a world where binge-TV culture is a huge deal. The ideal audience will want to listen to episodes back to back. Consider batch producing episodes so that there are a few episodes in the library ready to go live. Whether you have made one of these mistakes or all 3, now is the time to adjust some of your podcasting strategies and graduate from rookie to podcast pro!
